NASA unveils Planet Themed USPS Stamps
You can now embark on a tour of our solar system- from the innermost planet Mercury to the dwarf planet Pluto- just by visiting your local United States Post Office.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) issued two sets of postage stamps Tuesday illustrating the eight planets that circle the sun and the world that orbits beyond them.
The new stamp packs had their first day of issue ceremony at the World Stamp Show NY 2016 in New York today, which happens in the U.S. once per decade.
The images are stunning, colorful, and include Earth. Each stamp features an iconic image of each planet, including some pretty stunning ones of Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Earth.
Some stamps show the planet’s “true” color and what we might see with our own eyes if traveling through space. Others use colors to represent and visualize certain features of a planet based on imaging data.
There will be additional Forever stamps, one featuring the iconic image New Horizons took of Pluto last summer, and the New Horizons spacecraft itself.
The stamps will be equal to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.
Each pack features a total of 16 Forever stamps.
