Magic Leap One Launch Date Set for 8/8/2018 (Possibly at 8:08)

After a series of hints revealed by CEO Rony Abovitz via Twitter, Magic Leap looks like it is ready to launch Magic Leap One on 8/8/2018 at 8:08.

Rony Aboviz changed his twitter profile’s header to this launching whales image at 8:08pm on 8/7/2018. One day before launch.

At 8:08 pm ET this evening, Abovitz changed his avatar to a floating Magic Leap spaceman, his twitter cover image to launching whales, and tweeted a link to the Wikipedia page for the Roland TR-808. Tomorrow is Aug. 8, or 08-08-2018. We don’t know if it’ll launch in the morning at 8:08am ET (which is an absolutely brutal 5:08am on the west coast), or in the evening at 8:08pm (or 5:08pm PT), but the embargoed reviews and reserve page are almost certain to go up within the next 24 hours.

And now, the Magic Leap homepage displays a rocket on a launchpad with the message “Be Right Back” emblazoned above it. The rocket also spins when users click and drag across the page.

We got a hint that Wednesday would be the day from Abovitz on Twitter last week. After going into radio silence on July 31, Abovitz broke protocol to share a tweet honoring musician Jerry Garcia’s birthday on Aug. 1. He followed that with a tweet resuming radio silence that also included eight suns, hinting that launch was eight days away. (For what it is worth, Garcia died on Aug. 9, which was the date I put my fantasy chips on for launch day.)

At this point, it is evident we should all tune in tomorrow at 8:08 am ET for takeoff. And if not then, 8:08pm it is!
